Networking elicits interesting reactions from some businesspeople (cowering, screaming in terror, avoiding it at all costs possible). Like it or not, however, networking is vital to your career.

Once you start networking within your own company, at social functions and during organisation-wide conferences, you might find that you’re doing quite well, branching out and meeting others.

The secret to successful, effective networking, though, is this: you have to constantly be networking with NEW people.

Eventually, you’ll meet and greet everyone in your circle. When you network with the same groups of people over and over again, eventually the opportunity runs out and there are no new ideas or opinions being voiced. You have to move outside of your day-to-day circles where you’re comfortable, in order to continuously grow and find new career opportunities.

That’s the secret to successful networking.
