Throughout my career coaching technical professionals, I’ve observed how the first few moments of any interaction can set the tone for everything that follows. The “En-trance” in our ENGAGE model isn’t about grand gestures or theatrical performances, it’s about being intentionally present from the moment you enter any situation.
Three key principles I’ve found to be transformative:
1. Your presence begins before you speak
2. Awareness creates impact
3. Authenticity trumps performance
Consider this: When you enter a room, what energy do you bring with you? Are you already mentally present in the next meeting? Are you absorbed in your phone? Or are you truly there, ready to engage?
The most impactful leaders I’ve worked with master this first principle of engagement. They understand that leadership presence isn’t about dominating a room, it’s about being genuinely present in it.
