A smile can have a fundamental impact on the way other people perceive you, but just smiling is not nearly good enough. Why? Well, there are up to 19 different “types” of smiles, according to studies, and one can benefit you the most as you’re on your Engaging Executive journey.
It’s called the Duchenne Smile.
The Duchenne smile is a full-faced smile. Not just a small, little polite smile, a pleasantry that just moves the corners of your mouth in an upward direction, but a real, full-on smile.
Some believe the Duchenne smile is actually the only true smile, because it appears only when you’re truly connecting with someone else. How do you know when your smile is Duchenne? The cheeks lift, the teeth are showing and the skin at the corners of your eyes wrinkle. People respond to it. You smile the Duchenne smile and people smile back. It’s addictive!
The next time you’re out and about, share a Duchenne smile.
You’ll be surprised at the impact on those around you, and you’ll even start feeling a little bit more positive yourself! The smile part of making that first great impression. Read here on more tips on making a great impression. For more tips, check out my Engaging Executive Vlog.
